Flock worker’s lung is a chronic lung disease caused by the inhalation of certain synthetic fibres, most commonly nylon flock.
Lung damage may result from exposure over time, which can cause inflammation and scarring of the walls of the lungs. Flocking, widely used in the production of industrial synthetic textiles, is a process involving the application of short lengths of fibre to backing fabric in the production of ‘fleece’ material. Nylon workers are most at risk of the disease, but usually only those involved in flocking and not all nylon processes.
Sufferers develop shortness of breath after exposure. Symptoms appear reduced when exposure stops, but do not always resolve fully.
As exposure may have taken place in the workplace, it may be possible to pursue a claim for compensation against an insurance company.
Generally, compensation for general damages for pain, discomfort and loss of amenity will vary depending on the severity of symptoms / condition and the period of time for which they have or are likely to last. The greater the level of pain and discomfort and the longer the symptoms persist, the higher the compensation.
In addition to general damages, you may also claim for all heads of Special Damages, to include past and future loss of earnings; overtime; bonus pay; gratuitous care provided by family / friends ; travel expenses; payments for painkillers; private medical treatment; pension loss; etc
